"OK here are the updated findings :

A) Registry addition will not fix the gamma slider for Unreal Tournament and 4.2 - 4.3 drivers although you can set the registry value to 2 and use the colour tab gamma value instead as a workaround
B) It DOES fix the problem with Adobe Gamma and possibly other problems so its worth a shot
C) COD, Quake 3 and KOTOR gamma sliders all seem to work fine

Involves inserting a new Dword value into the registry

NT/2K path :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ati2mtag\Device0

XP path :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\ati2mtag\Device0

Dword should be called :

GSettingControl

value should be :

0 if you want the full screen app / game to use its own gamma
1 if you want the windowed app / game to use its own gamma
2 if you want the driver to ignore the app / game gamma and use the setting in the colour tab instead (some games seem to prefer this option)

Heres some text you can copy and paste into a text file and save with the extension .REG if you dont feel comfortable editing the registry with regedit. (if anyone wants to host some registry files give me the links and I'll add them to the post) Once the new file has been created double click and inport it into the registry ... obviously amend the 00000000 value to 00000001 or 00000002 as needed before importing it depending what you want to happen

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\ati2mtag\Device0]
"GSettingControl"=dword:00000000

*UPDATE*

I put the change in CurrentControlSet as well as the other controlsets

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{BIG LONG NUMBER}\0000]

You will need to reboot for the change to take effect

For 4.5 drivers ....

OK here are the 4.5 inf's edited to include the Gsettingcontrol option value set to 2 so that Adobe gamma ect will work

Both Win2k and WinXP

The files are only 20k but I dont have a lot of bandwidth on my free webhosting so im not sure how long they will last

First come first served I guess

How to get this working:

Download the official 4.5 drivers
Unpack them either by running the install and cancelling it or using Winzip to unpack the drivers that way

The filepaths in my zip are stored assuming that you have unpacked your drivers to the usual C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-01-040421a-015419c default 4.5 directory

You will need to overwrite the original files when unpacking my zip file, then install the drivers using the setup.exe in C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-01-040421a-015419c folder which will reinstall the 4.5 drivers but using the new INF's

*DISCLAIMER*
If your computer bursts into flames when doing this I am not liable ok?
