OK Leute, da sich einige beschwert haben, daß der X-Server nur langsam ist beim Zeichnen, hier ein Test damit wir die Ergebnisse vergleichen können.

Einfach die Konsole öffnen (keine anderen Programme im Hintergrund laufen lassen!) und das eingeben:

x11perf -aa10text

Kann mir mal bitte einer erklären was was bedeutet und was gut/schlecht ist?

Weil ich finde es komisch das mein Pentium II mit Rage128 ähnlich Werte anzeigt wie ein XP 2400 mit 9600XT.

Im Hintergrund lief KDE und Firefox, Farbtiefe: 24bit

Noch was Allgemeines zur Diskussion: Ich kann mich über den 2D Speed nicht pauschaul beklagen, KDE läuft super, da schaff ich es auch nicht mit mehreren Fenstern ein Redraw zu produzieren, bei GTK Apps schaut das aber schon ganz anderes aus: Wenn ich über einen Vollbild Firefox ein anderes Fenster ziehe, dann sehe ich eine ca. 1cm lange Spur... Allerdings sowohl unter Linux als auch unter Windows, wenn auch unter win nicht so stark...

Ehm und jetzt? Wir haben zwar all die schönen Zahlen und können daraus Diagramme zeichnen und Schwanzlängen vergleichen.

Aber irgend eine Interpretationshilfe zu den Resultaten wäre schon sinnvoll.

ich hab vom schlechtesten hier ein zehntel.. das kann doch nicht am gentoo liegen! vorseite, mandrake und 9600pro hat das zehnfache bzw ist zehnmal schneller!

Da hast du ja zielsicher genau den langweiligsten Abschnitt erwischt. Zeig mal bitte welche Extensions du lädst, wie deine ATI spezifischen Einstellungen aussehen, und welche Extensions dann tatsächlich geladen werden.

Edit: Achso. Du hast ein Problem mit Copy&Paste? Probier mal "xdpyinfo > xdpyinfo.txt". Dann wird die komplette Ausgabe in eine Datei umgeleitet.

Hab das Problem selbst in die Hand genommen und mir x.org kompiliert. Hier die Werte mit ein paar laufenden Apps im Hintergrund auf barton 2100mhz und Radeon 9800pro(3.9.0) in Gnome.

Kann es ein, dass es hier eher ati vs. nvidia ist, was die differenzen angeht. Ich meine die ati-treiber sind wirklich crap.

Ich schätze mal, daß es da keinen Unterschied zwischen Xfree und XOrg gibt ;-)

Da steht auch das mann die Test auf einem frisch gestartetem X-Server machen soll.

Und warum machen wir nicht: x11perf -all?

/edit: bin noch zu lame, werds morgen nochmal probieren.. der spuckt bei der installation nur
Entpacke fglrx (aus fglrx_4.3.0-4.11_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: Fehler beim Bearbeiten von fglrx_4.3.0-4.11_i386.deb (--install):
versuche »/usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2« zu überschreiben, welches auch in Paket xlibmesa-gl ist
dpkg-deb: Unterprozess paste getötet mit Signal (Datenübergabe unterbrochen (broken pipe))
Fehler traten auf beim Bearbeiten von:
fglrx_4.3.0-4.11_i386.deb
