Here in Monaco, it’s hard to tell if the Red Bull Racing Energy Station is a space ship or a yacht. The team HQ has been given a very special parking place in the cramped Monegasque paddock, as it is floating in the harbour, just outside the paddock gate.
Technically, it is classed as a yacht, taking up no less than three of the highly prized berths in one of the most famous harbours in the world. On Tuesday night, a major storm hit the Principality and the decks of the Energy Station were treacherously slippery and look-outs were posted to watch for icebergs. Rumours that Sporting Director Christian Horner was on the top deck, dressed as legendary Captain Ahab from “Moby Dick,” shouting, “I will go down with my ship,” have been denied.
And the space ship connection? As part of the joint promotion with the latest Star Wars episode, "Revenge of the Sith," the outside of the Energy Station has been given a special livery, featuring a huge image of everyone’s favourite film baddy, Darth Vader, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the team's Technical Director, Günther Steiner.
