"IF you use a pirated Windows Operating System and download new updates and drivers from the Microsoft download centre, you may be in for a surprise from July 26.

In a global initiative aimed at nudging users to shift to genuine Windows software, Microsoft will kick off its Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program from July 26.

Under this, users of pirated Windows XP and 2000 Operating System who want to download new updates and drivers will have to go for a Legalisation SKU priced Rs 4,000-4,500 for Windows XP Home, and less than Rs 6,500 for Windows XP Professional."

"With this initiative in place, users of Windows OS, attempting to download new updates such as drivers and other applications from the MS download centre, would be asked to validate their software online by feeding a unique product key that can be found on the certificate of authenticity that comes with every piece of genuine software.

Once validated, the user would get access to premium content on the download centre.

The activation code or the product key used to identify a genuine user of Windows cannot be used by bulk users for downloads.

Users of pirated software unable to validate would be given an option to buy genuine Windows XP and install it onto the PC for a price cheaper than the retail version or off-the-shelf box, which costs about Rs 5,000 for Windows XP Home."

Für bestimmte Dinge gibts diese Genuine Dingens ja schon.

Hab die Meldung mal überfolgen und wenn ichs richtig versteh wollen die ne bestimmte Nummer vom Certificate of Authenti.... bla ihr wisst schon.

Dumm aber für Leute die im Rahmen von Partnerschaftsdeals ihre Produkte von MS bekommen haben und dazu nur die Serial (wie ich :) ).

Zeit für Linux... =)

Ich glaube nicht. Es geht darum, dass du ein tool downloadest und das produziert eine Nummer, welche du wiederum auf der jeweiligen Seite eingibst und dann kannst du dir das downloaden.

Wenn deine Serial legal ist, ist dein Windows legal und das funktioniert auch. Also bei mir gehts, denn ich hab auch nur quasi den Produkt Key weil mein XP auch eine Version aus dem MSDNAA Programm ist.

Damit wäre das Echtheitszertifikat gemeint, was man meistens auf dem Handbuch oder einem extra Zettel findet...

Die Serialnummer allein sollte also nicht ausreichen...


Mal schauen welche Bereiche das betrifft. Bei Maustreibern o.ä. wäre es sicher schon problematisch, denn nicht überall liegt ein Zertifikat vorbei, meist wird bei Onlineshops nur die Ware verschickt, ohne irgendwelche Verpackung.

Das wäre natürlich blöd, aber da steht auch "unique product key" und der ist AFAIK die Serial Nummer die man bei der installation eingeben muss.

Für das DX SDK muss man ja den Genuine Test machen.

Habs nochmal durchgelesen. Die Rede ist davon eine Nummer / Schlüssel online einzugeben, der sich auf dem Certificate Of Authenticity befindet.

Also kein Tool. Nix Download, nix MSDNAA.

Ausserdem kann man sich die Patches ja auch noch auf einem anderen Rechner runterladen und dann auf der anderen Kiste installieren.

Könnte es sein, das sich dies erstmal auf bestimmte Länder, wie z.B. Indien bezieht?
So klingt es zumindest, es werden ja auch keine Eurobeträge genannt.

Das erkennen der Sprache dürfte für MS kein großes Problem sein...
