I have problems with the following sentences:
1)He looked at him IN fascination.

2)xxx, he responeded WITH indignation.

Is there a rule that advises which preposition to choose?
Why is IN correct in the first sentence while in the second WITH is correct?
this has bothered me for a long time and I cannot figure it out.

thx Peter

I'm afraid there is no such rule.
Certain prepositions are just bound to verbs, it's the same in German.

Well....in this case the prepositions sare not bound to the verb...BUT rather with the noun...

But I suppose there isn't a rule...english is not as easy as we think...apparently it ahs the biggest vocabulary..(and maybe random rules? ;D )
