Hallo Leutz,

ich habe einen Rechner mit SUSE 10 am Laufen. In ihm werkelt meine gute alte GeForce 256 der Marke Elsa (Erazor X). Mein Problem besteht nun darin, dass allem Anschein nach, ich nicht die 3D-Beschleunigung unter KDE aktivieren kann und auch so manches mitgelieferte Spiel es nicht als 3D-Beschleuniger erkennt.

Ich habe schon versucht die aktuellsten nVidia-Treiber zu installieren, jedoch unterstützt das Paket keine GeForce 256 mehr. Also nun meine Frage an euch: Wie schaffe ich es, dass die Karte als 3D-Beschleuniger erkannt wird? Gibt es da noch andere Treiber?

Der letzte NV-Treiber, der die Geforce256 unterstützt, ist der hier:

Der 71.74er Treiber ist der letzte Nvidiatreiber der die alten karten noch unterstützt.

Um ihn zu installieren, mußt du erst mal die Kernelsourcen, gcc, autoconf, automake, g++, glibc-devel installieren (über yast oder apt).

Danach den besagten Treiber herunterladen
http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-7174/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run

und als root mit "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run" die Installation ausführen.
Das große Problem besteht darin, daß du mit Kernelversionen >=2.6.14 kein Nvidiamodul mehr bauen können wirst.

So, ich hab mich nun das WE daran versucht und ich muss sagen, ich bin gescheitert. Ich habe den von euch verlinkten Treiber heruntergeladen und sowohl nach euren Anweisungen als auch nach den Anweisungen des SUSE-HowTo´s (http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-installer-HOWTO.html#3) gehalten. Aber es funktioniert nicht.

Hier das Verhalten:
Die Files kann ich soweit auf runlevel 3 installieren. Versuche ich danach allerdings "sax2" mit oder ohne den Parametern aus dem HowTo zu starten, meldet sich sax immer mit einer Fehlermeldung ab. Und zwar kann er die Grafikkarte nicht finden. Nach einem Neustart ist aber alles wieder soweit in Ordnung, nur dass noch immer die 3D-Beschleunigung nicht funktioniert.

Wo könnte ich einen Fehler gemacht haben?

Lässt sich sicher einfacher installieren und damit sollte es dann auch erledigt sein...

Ansonsten: Statt sax mal nen Texteditor bemühen? Sind ja nur 1-3 Zeilen, die man ändern muß und da gibts ja von nvidia eine entsprechende Hilfe

Du müsstest vermutlich in der /etx/X11/xorg.conf die Zeichenfolge "nv" durch "nvidia" ersetzen ..... dann brauchst du kein SAX.

/edit: In einen Texteditor kommst du mit "vi /etx/X11/xorg.conf" von der Konsole aus. Aber schau mal nach einer Kurzanleitung für den, sonst wirst du eher Verzweifeln ;) . Aja, die Zeichenfolge Esc --> :q --> Enter beendet das Ding.

puh, das kann ich nicht genau sagen, weil ich kein suse nutze.

ich nehme an, das wird man in yast finden, ich erinnere mich grob an "online update" oder so...

Tut mir wegen meiner mangelnden Erfahrung ja Leid, aber was müsste ich denn ändern?
hat mein vorredner ja schon gesagt, genauer stehts in der nvidia-readme. wo du die findest, sagt dir der installer bei der installation (/usr/share/doc oder so)

ich würde als texteditor aber "pico" oder "nano" empfehlen, die sind für nen neuling halbwegs verständlich und sollten vorhanden sein.
strg+x zB ist speichern und beenden.

Das hab ich gemacht. Aber auch das bringt mich nicht zum Erfolg. Wenn ich den PC so starte, geht er gleich in die bash, da er KDE nicht anzeigen kann (also X11). Hat noch jemand ne zündende Idee?

schau mal (muß man vll als root machen) mit "lsmod" ob ein modul namens "nvidia" geladen ist.
falls nicht, tippe mal "modprobe nvidia" (das muß ohne fehler gehn!) und danach "startx"

falls es so geht, mußt du das modul noch in die liste zum automatischen laden hinzufügen - aber keine ahnung wo bei suse

PS: mal nach rpms gekuckt? die dürften dir die ganzen scherereien, die du gerade hast, ersparen ;)

Das geht nicht. Da kommt folgender Fehler:

Den Treiber habe ich jetzt 2 oder 3 Mal installiert. Wie ich ihn installiert habe? Naja, ich habe das *.run Paket, welches ihr oben verlinkt habt runtergeladen, dann gehe ich in die Konsole, melde mich als root an, starte runlevel 3 und führe das Paket mit sh nvidia....run -q aus. Dann läuft der Installer durch. Der gibt auch keine weitere Fehlermeldung aus, als das er kein vorkompiliertes Kernel-Modul finden kann.

such mal in yast nach online update oder einer sonstigen paket-management-funktion, über eine solche findest du mit großer sicherheit auch nvidia-treiber.

unabhängig davon - die installation hast du korrekt gemacht.
wo die fehlermeldung herkommt - keine ahnung.

falls du kein rpm-paket findest, mach mal folgendes (wird etwas lustig):

anmeldung als root
cd /etc
grep -lir nvidia * (sucht nach dateien, die das wort "nvidia" enthalten)
nun müßte er also ein paar dateinamen ausspucken.
ist eine datei dabei, die ein "modul" im dateinamen trägt, mit texteditor öffnen und nach einer solchen zeile suchen:
"options nvidia ..."
falls du die findest, mit einem "#" am zeilenanfang auskommentieren.

danach sollte sich das modul laden lassen



ich wüßte aber mal zu gerne, was suse hier verbockt hat
