Ich weiss, der Threadtitel ist sehr vage, aber ich bin mir auch nicht so sicher was genau mein Problem ist. Die Symptome sind etwas verwirrend.

Ganz von vorne:
Mein System ist ein Sockel 939 X2 4200
Mainboard Gigabyte Ga-K8N Pro-SLI F6
Festplatten sind alle von Samsung, 3x 300GB HD300LD, 1x 400GB HD401LJ

So weit die wichtigsten Daten. Die Rot markierte Festplatte befindet sich seit neuestem im Rechner, vorher keine SATA-Geräte angeschlossen.

Ich habe ein DualBoot-System mit WinXP auf dem neuesten Stand, sowie einem Ubuntu 6.06.1 (inkl. dessen Bootloader Grub). Seit dem Moment in dem ich die Festplatte angeschlossen habe habe ich folgende Symptome:

1. Das BIOS bleibt nach Erkennung der Festplatten ca. 10 Sekunden stehen. Dann gehts normal weiter.
2. Grub ist langsamer geworden. Die Meldung "GRUB Loading stage 1.5. " (die normalerweise kaum zu sehen ist) erscheint verzögert, und zwar steht ca. 10 Sekunden nur "Grub" da, dann kommt "Loading Stage 1.5" dahinter, es steht wieder alles für 10 Sekunden, dann kommt das Auswahlfeld für das zu startende Betriebssystem. Wähle ich Windows kommen die Meldungen Chainloader +1, makeActive etc. und dann nichts mehr. Auch nach einer halben Stunde Wartezeit nichts. Linux dagegen startet. Die Anzeige "Mounting root Filesystem" steht für 2 Minuten und 10 Sekunden (Stoppuhr), danach startet das System ohne Probleme. Es läuft alles, alle Partitionen werden erkannt, die SATA-Platte wird erkannt. Auch nach 5 Stunden Betrieb kein Absturz, kein Fehler, nichts.
3. PE-Builder-CD gestartet. Auch hier steht das System für ca. 2-3 Minuten, dann startet alles ohne Probleme.
4. Seit die SATA-Platte angeschlossen ist taucht bei jedem Linux-Start die Fehlermeldung "hda: DMA timeout error" und "hda: dma timeout error: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }"

SMART-Status zeigt keinen Fehler, die Platten funktionieren im Betrieb einwandfrei. Alle Partitionen werden ohne Fehler gemountet.

Also hab ich mir gedacht: Mensch, irgendwas mag das System nicht an der SATA2-Platte. Na gut, dann halt weg damit. Platte abgeklemmt, gestartet, gleiches Problem. Selbst wenn ich den SATA-Controller im BIOS komplett deaktiviere kommen die oben genannten Pausenzeiten.

Was mich noch irritiert: hdparm /dev/hda zeigt mir
/dev/hda:

Ich glaube das war vorher an, so wie es auch bei den anderen Platten noch an ist.

Als nächstes werde ich die Platten einzeln testen, aber ich habe irgendwie das Gefühl bei meiner Umbauaktion (Für den Einbau der SATA2 musste ich alles andere Umbauen wegen Stromkabeln) habe ich irgendwas geschrottet. Nur was? Und warum läuft Linux ohne Probleme (wenn es denn einmal gestartet ist)?

Weitere Diagnose: Es liegt an der Primary Master Platte. Sobald die ab ist läuft alles wie geschmiert. Nur halt kein Betriebssystem, weil die beide von der Platte abhängen. Ich mache grad noch ne Datensicherung auf eine andere Platte, aber das geht verdammt langsam. In einer Stunde 15GB, und das bei konstant 100% CPU-Last.

Falls jemandem noch die Idee kommt: IDE-Kabel wurden getauscht, ebenso wurden Master und Slave vertauscht. Gleiches Ergebnis.

Was kann da kaputt gegangen sein? Wenn ich die Platte zum Hersteller schicken will muss ich ja irgendwie einen reproduzierbaren Fehler vorweisen können. Wie schon gesagt, die Platte wird erkannt und die Daten können ja auch noch gelesen/geschrieben werden...

4. Teilen sich die SATA/PATA Anschlüsse womöglich den selben Controller? Hab ich zwar (glaub ich) schonmal gesehen, aber ich denke nicht bei deinem Mainboard.

Ja ich hab mich dann auch etwas erschreckt als ich mal der Neugier wegen auf den Chipsatzkühler gefasst habe. Dummerweise habe ich mir damals das Gigabyte ausgesucht weil es halt eines der wenigen war ohne so einen nervigen 40er-Brülllüfter. Ich HASSE die Dinger wie die Pest. Aber ne andere Kühlung kann ich für den Chip auch nicht draufmachen, da ist nämlich das PCB von meiner Graka quer drüber. Lässt sich nicht viel ändern.
Während des Backup lief der Rechner mit offenem Gehäuse, also kann es schon mal nicht schlimmer sein als sonst. Und trotzdem war die Performance der Platte unter aller Sau.

Die Probleme sind also nicht sofort aufgetreten (nach dem Einbau der SATA-Platte), sondern erst nach einiger Zeit? Das klang nämlich nach sofort.

Hast du schon Samsungs Diagnose-Tool (http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDiskDrive/utilities/hutil.htm) darüber fahren lassen. Ich weis nicht, wie es beim Samsung-Tool ist, aber das Seagate-Tool bei Seagate Festplatten gibt auch noch Auskunft darüber, wann es ein Garantie-Fall ist und wann nicht.

Deine Festplatten haben mit Sicherheit noch Garantie und das Ganze hört sich nach einem Elektronik-Schaden an (erkennt den DMA Mode nicht und setzt ihn auf 0, den langsamsten Wert).

Jepp, Problem ist sofort nach dem Einbau aufgetreten. Ich habe halt alles an Festplatten umplatzieren müssen wegen den Stromkabeln. Schon möglich dass ich da irgendwo drangekommen bin.
Das HUtil habe ich noch nicht getestet weil ich dafür ne Dos/Win98 Startdiskette brauche. Und die einzige die ich noch habe (CD) startet den CD-Treiber nicht wenn nicht mindestens eine FAT-Partition vorhanden ist. Bekanntes Problem, aber ich war bisher zu faul das Ding umzubasteln.
Garantie müsste noch drauf sein, aber ich wollte erstmal hier aus den Reihen nen Schuss ins Blaue haben woran es denn letztendlich liegen kann. Immerhin ist dieses Geschwindigkeitsproblem für meine Begriffe etwas seltsam. Ich kenne Festplattenausfälle immer nur im Rahmen von Schreib-/Lesefehlern, seltsamen Geräuschen und sonstigen Gespenstigkeiten.

Nein und Nein. Egal was ich mache, alles das gleiche. Muss also irgendwie mit der Platte zusammenhängen. Ich hab sogar mal der Freude halber SATA komplett im BIOS deaktiviert und die SATA-Platte abgeklemmt. Keine Verbesserung. Also entweder hat die Platte einen Fluch über mein gehäuse gebracht oder ich hab doch beim Umbau irgendwo angeeckt.

Vielleicht hat auch der Controller einen Schlag abbekommen. Vielleicht war aber auch das Netzteil zu schwach, um eine weitere Platte zu versorgen. (Klemmst du eigentlich dein Netzteil ab, wenn du am PC bastelst... falls ja, kannst du eigentlich nicht viel falsch gemacht haben.)

Vielleicht ist dies ja dein 6er im Lotto. Andere Leute werden zweimal hintereinander vom Blitz getroffen und du hast eben eine defekte Festplatte, nachdem du eine andere Festplatte eingebaut hast. :hammer:

Wie auch immer, hilft nichts. Test die defekte Platte mit dem Tool und schick sie bei Samsung ein.

Das Netzteil ist ein 600 Watt Enermax. Das sollte es können.
Ja, ich klemme immer alles ab wenn ich schraube. Da mein Rechner unter dem Schreibtisch steht hole ich den sowieso immer auf den Tisch um ordentlich arbeiten zu können. War also nichts mehr angeschlossen.

Hi,

wie ich sehe funktioniert auch der IDE Blockmodus (Multisector IO) auch nicht, irgendwie scheint es so, als wenn die Platte nicht richtig initialisiert wird.

Schau doch mal mit hdparm -i ob alle unterstützen DMA Modies und Block-Modies angezeigt werden. Versuche dann mittels hdparm -d1 -X69 den UDMA Modus 5 zusetzen. Mit hdparm -m16 kannst du den IDE Block Modus auf 16 Blöcke setzen, dass sollte dann dein kopieren beschleunigen.

Zu dem würde ich eine Überprüfung auf schlechte Blöcke mit badblocks empfehlen. Boote mit einer Rescue-CD und mach den Test dann, weil das Dateisystem was sich auf der Platte befindet nicht gemountet sein darf. Und weil Du ja schon Daten auf der Platte hast musst Du die Option -n (nicht destruktiver Read-Write Test) benutzen. Ein Blick in die Manpage kann auch nicht schaden und solltest Du auch vorher machen.

1. + 2. + 3. hört sich an wie n fehlerhaftes BIOS im ACPI Bereich.

Kenn mich da auch nicht genau aus, aber habe über sowas gelesen (bezügl. des nx6325 Notebooks, das ich habe). Da bleibt Linux auch teilweise hängen. Und Auch beim Reaktivieren von Windows ausm Standby/Ruhemodus hängt die Kiste.

Ist aber nur ne Vermutung von mir und vielleicht hat das damit gar nix zu tun.

Lange ist es her, aber ich hab endlich herausgefunden was kaputt war:

Beim Umbau habe ich wohl irgendwie einen Pin des IDE-Anschlusses durchgedrückt. Ich habe keine Ahnung wie das passiert ist, und ich weiss auch nicht wieso die Platte überhaupt noch funktioniert hat. Jedenfalls habe ich den Pin wieder in seine ursrüngliche Position geschoben und seitdem geht die Platte wieder.

Danke an alle die sich Gedanken gemacht haben, aber anscheinend hätte ich einfach nur mal nen näheren Blick auf den Anschluss werfen sollen.
