Edit: Ich habe den Titel des Threads wegen des neuen Problems geändert (vorher: Debian 2.2 gesucht / Problem mit Olicom Token Ring-Karte)! Das neue Problem wird am Ende von Seite 1 erstmals beschrieben, weitere Details auf Seite 2+!

Tag zusammen,

ich möchte eine Olciom Token Ring PCI-Netzwerkkarte unter Debian zum laufen bringen, doch weder beinhaltet das aktuelle Debian die dafür nötigen Treiber, noch lassen sich im Internet welche für den Kernel 2.6 auffinden.

Alles, was ich finden konnte, ist ein Treiber für Kernel 2.2.5 (olicom.patch-32-2.2.5). Ich habe bereits versucht, diesen Treiber mit dem 2.6er Kernel neu zu kompilieren, bisher jedoch ohne Erfolg (wobei ich anmerken muss, dass ich was Linux angeht ein ziemlicher Noob bin!).

Jetzt bin ich auf der Suche nach einer alten Debian 2.2er Version (Potato), die ich allerdings bisher auf keinem Server gefunden habe. Wenn natürlich jemand weiß, wie man das ganze mit dem aktuellen Debian ans laufen bekommt, lasst es mich wissen!

Scheint ziemlich alt zu sein, evtl. geht das ftp://ftp.ringdale.com/support/Madge/LSS_v9_2/DRIVERS/LINUX/ für die Karte wenn du ne Distribution mit 2.4er Kernel nimmst (hatte wer in nem Beitrag geschrieben auch wenn das bissel ne andere Firma ist). Außerdem kannst du von kernel.org auch nen 2.2er Kernel runterlade und kompilieren. Sollte grundsätzlich auch mit einem aktuellen Debian laufen denk ich mal (ohne Gewähr).

Aber was ganz Anderes: Kannst du keine andere TokenRing-Karte kaufen (sofern du denn wirklich TokenRing brauchst)? So ne IBM mit ibmtr- oder olympic-Treiber sollte auch unter dem aktuellsten 2.6er-Kernel laufen und vielleicht 5€ in der eBucht kosten. Sehe da wenig Sinn dahinter sich wegen den paar € stundenlang mit so ner seltsamen Karte abzugeben...

Ist leider ein Auftrag von meinem Chef. Es handelt sich hierbei quasi um eine pädagogische Maßnahme, weil ich in der Mittagspause einen Galgen geknüpft und nen kleinen Stoffpinguin gehengt habe (man muss Auch mal Flagge zeigen, oder? ^^):

Beweisen, dass Linux besser ist, wird dein Chef mit der Maßnahme aber sicher nicht sondern eher die in deinem Foto dargestellte Meinung etwas verfestigen (auch wenn es für diese Karte wohl auch bei aktuellen Windows-Versionen keine Treiber gibt) :D

Das ist nicht so das Problem, ich glaube wir haben auch mehr als einen Sack an PCI/ISA-Karten bei uns im Lager liegen... ;)

Wie lautet denn die pädagogische Maßnahme genau? Vielleicht gibts da ja Auslegungsspielraum ;)

Also ich, als nicht-paranoider Windows-Verfechter und Linux-Nub, soll einen unserer neueren Rechner (nForce5, Athlon64, Radeon X1600) als Linux-Router konfigurieren, welcher zwischen einem Ethernet- und einem Token Ring-Netz routet. Als Distri MUSS Debian benutzt werden (so will es il capo)! Die Token Ring-Karten sind alle von Olicom (super Website haben die -.-), die meisten OC-3137. Bisher haben wir für das ganze unsere ganz alten Rechner benutzt (Pentium2 & 3 etc.), wo wir dann ISA-Karten (IBM -> ibmtr) benutzt haben.

Jedenfalls bekomm ichs einfach nicht gebacken (den Kernel schon), dass sich die Karte initialisieren lässt. Ich probier und probier und guck Linux Stunden dabei zu, wie Abertausende Zeilen für mich kryptischen Codes über den Monitor laufen, aber bin nach 3 Tagen zu keinem brauchbaren Ergebnis gekommen. oO

Ich werde mir morgen mal die von Dir verlinkte CD herunterladen und das ganze nochmal probieren! Danke Dir!

ist denn über "cat /proc/pci" bei einem aktuellen Kernel irgendetwas von der Karte zu sehen?

Das könnte ich tun, mein Chef möchte aber, dass es mit den SATA-Platten funktioniert! :|

Die Karte wird per lspci angezeigt. Ich werd morgen nochmal dran tüfteln, vielleicht besorg ich mir dann mal den aktuellen 2.6.x'er Kernel (aktuell Debian 4.0_r5 mit Kernel 2.6.18-6), vielleicht klappts ja dann damit.

Ist auf jedenfall zum Mäusemelken die ganze Sache... :tongue:

Also für den 2.2er Kernel wirds wohl kaum aktuelle SATA-Treiber geben und wenn der Treiber für diese olle Karte nur für den 2.2er Kernel verfügbar ist, dann ist das ziemlich unmöglich (außer du portierst den Treiber irgendwie aber das dürfte durchaus...ähh...anspruchsvoll sein :D).

iGentlich hat doch der 2.2er Kernel gar keinen SATA-Support?

Mein Tipp: Lern Linux zu mögen und 2. kauf dir neue TokenRing-Karten oder sag deinem Chef das dus nit hinkriegst ;)

SCSI-Support gibts halt und theoretisch könnte man darüber schon SATA-Festplatten einbinden. Ob das aber ein Hersteller macht...ich denke eher nicht.

Das hab ich als erstes gemacht, leider bietet das BIOS keine Möglichkeit, die SATA-Laufwerke im IDE-Modus laufen zu lassen...

Neuer Stand der Dinge:

Ich habe mir jetzt eine neuen neuen IBM PCI 16/4 Token Ring Adapter 2 WOL besorgt (olympic Treiber). Dieser wird auch per lspci angezeit, sogar bei der Installation von Debian (4.0 r5) wird die Karte beim auswählen des primären Netzwerkadapters als "tr0" aufgeführt.

Sobald ich die Karte jedoch initialisieren möchte (ifconfig tr0 up), fängt die grüne LED an der Karte sowie an der Mau zwar an zu leuchten (die Relais in der Mau klicken ebenfalls, also irgendwas tauscht sich da aus), jedoch erscheint mit einiger Zeit Verzögerung in der Konsole folgende Fehlermeldung:

SIOCSIFFLAG: Eingabe-/Ausgabefehler

Nach intensiven googlens scheint es ein Problem mit der IRQ-Verteilung zu sein, jedoch habe ich auch hier schon einiges ausprobiert (außerdem zeigt cat /proc/interrupts keine doppelte Belegung des IRQ der Karte an), wie IRQ im BIOS festlegen, Bootparameter acpi=off, pci=bios, pci=nobios etc.

Kann mir jemand des Rätsels Lösung verraten?

Kannst du auf der Kiste mal FreeBSD installieren und schauen, ob dort Fehler gemeldet werden? Sobald der Kopiervorgang läuft einmal ALT+F2 für Terminal 1 drücken, um während dem Dateikopieren zu sehen, ob es Fehler gibt. Mit Alt + F1 kommst du zum Terminal zurück.

Kannst du auf der Kiste mal FreeBSD installieren und schauen, ob dort Fehler gemeldet werden? Sobald der Kopiervorgang läuft einmal ALT+F2 für Terminal 1 drücken, um während dem Dateikopieren zu sehen, ob es Fehler gibt. Mit Alt + F1 kommst du zum Terminal zurück.

Erfolgserlebnis! Ich bin jetzt hingegangen und hab die Datei /etc/modprobe.d/options editiert und folgende Zeile eingefügt:

# IBM TokenRing Adapter 2 WOL
options olympic ringspeed=16

Dann noch am Ende in der /etc/modprobe.d/aliases:

alias tr0 olympic

Werd das ganze jetzt mal unter Debian wiederholen, aber das sollte ja klappen.

Du hast also die Meldung: "tr0: Please try again with a specified ring speed" richtig interpretiert :)
