Per Drag & Drop aus dem File-Manager Fenster nicht, mit "Entpacken" (Button in der Menüleiste) geht es. Dieses Verhalten ist seit Jahren Bestandteil von 7zip und wird seltsamerweise nicht vom Entwickler angegangen.

Nochmal etwas versätet zur Stable-Version. Das Changelog war ja nun leider nicht besonders umfassend, aber als Killerfeature hat sich für mich persönlich im Vergleich zu 4.65 die Möglichkeit erwiesen, Dateien per Drag&Drop zu JAR-Archiven hinzuzufügen. =)

Warum benutzt 7-Zip temporäre Dateien, wenn Dateien per Drag and Drop aus 7-Zip in den Explorer gezogen werden?

7-Zip kennt den Zielordner des Drag and Drop nicht, nur der Windows Explorer kennt den Pfad exakt. Windows Explorer benötigt außerdem die Dateien (die Quelldateien des Drag and Drop) als entpackte Dateien auf der Festplatte. 7-Zip dekomprimiert die Dateien also aus dem Archiv in den Temp-Ordner und teilt dem Windows Explorer den Pfad zu den temporären Dateien mit. Der Windows Explorer kopiert anschließend die Dateien in den Zielordner.

Um temporäre Dateien zu vermeiden, können Sie den "Entpacken"-Befehl von 7-Zip oder Drag and Drop von 7-Zip nach 7-Zip benutzen.

Bisher war es iirc immer so dass die Final aus der höchsten Version hervorging.
Da Igor über-vorsichtig ist was Releases angeht dürften zumindest Betaversionen keine Probleme machen.

Wir nutzen schon ewig Betas von 7zip und sind damit mehr als zufrieden.
Richtig eingestellt packt er sogar deutlich besser als Winrar, dauert aber natürlich dann länger.
Wir haben uns jetzt zwar eine Winrar Lizenz zugelegt, aber wirklich mithalten was die Kompression angeht kann es wohl mit 7zip nicht. Hatte aber auch ganz andere Gründe warum wir Winrar uns gekauft haben.

Auch wenn es nicht in diesen Update-Thread rein gehört (denke ich):

wie kann man mit 7-zip aufgesplittete Zip-Files erzeugen, die man dann auch mit Winzip öffnen kann? Wir haben in der Firma 7-zip auf den Rechnern, unsere Kunden aber nicht...und da ich gezwungen bin große Files als kleine Files (<5MB) per EMail zu schicken gibt es leider immer wieder das Problem das die Kunden die Files nicht öffnen können.

Oder gibt es eine portable-apps Alternative zu 7-zip?

wie kann man mit 7-zip aufgesplittete Zip-Files erzeugen, die man dann auch mit Winzip öffnen kann? Wir haben in der Firma 7-zip auf den Rechnern, unsere Kunden aber nicht...und da ich gezwungen bin große Files als kleine Files (<5MB) per EMail zu schicken gibt es leider immer wieder das Problem das die Kunden die Files nicht öffnen können.

Oder gibt es eine portable-apps Alternative zu 7-zip?

Sicher, aber leider kann man die Split-Volumes dann nur wieder mit 7-zip öffnen, wie ich jetzt leider erfahren musste. Die Kollegen beim Kunden waren leider nicht in der Lage die Split-Volume-ZIP-Dateien wieder zu öffnen.

Deshalb meine Frage, ob man bei 7-zip speziell was einstellen kann, damit es doch funktioniert, oder ob es andere portable-apps Programme gibt (portable-apps könnte ich auf meinem Rechner "installieren"..aber psst..nix der IT petzen ;) ) die das können.

Ach ja...google war natürlich keine Hilfe. Da findet man nur 2 Arten von Meldungen. 1. das es inkompatibel zu winzip ist und 2. eine Beschreibung wie man Split-volumes erstellt

Das liegt dann wohl am Dateinamensschema. Benenne sie mal probeweise so um, wie Winzip es machen würde. Keine Ahnung, ob man das automatisieren kann. Notfalls halt per Batch/Tool.
Die neuste WinRar-Version unterstützt wenigstens schon mal 7-Zip Splitarchive. Ob es automatisch mit dem Dateinamensschema von 7-Zip klarkommt, weiß ich aber nicht.

Wann gibts von 7-Zip mal eine finale Version? Es kann doch nicht sein, das man seit fast 5 Jahren mit der 9.20 herumgurkt.
Seitdem erschienen alpha und betas aber wie soll man als User einschätzen können, ab wann eine dieser Versionen für den praktischen Einsatz tauglich ist? Ein Fehler und Archive sind hinüber...
Das einzige was die wirklich gut machen ist die Kompatibilität:

Ich würde bloß die Finger von Alphas lassen.Jap, der Igor ist wohl extrem paranoid was Bugs angeht, deshalb gibt es Finals nur wenn er wirklich zu 99,999999% sicher ist, dass keinen groben Fehler drin sind. Mit seinen Betas hatte ich aber auch noch nie Probleme.
Ich finde aber auch es wäre langsam mal wieder Zeit für eine Final.

Gute Frage, scheint irgendein Error zu sein, hatte das erst mit den neuen Versionen, mit älteren nie. Zumal es wurde schon öfters gemeldet und als gefixt deklariert, ist es wohl aber nicht.
Merkwürdig daran ist, das die Meldung kommt wenn man über rechtsklick entpackt aber nicht wenn man erst ins Archiv guckt und dann die Ordner von dort auspackt.

Bei allen 16er Versionen (incl. .04) scheint ein Fehler in "Dateien entpacken" des Kontext-Menüs zu existieren.
Ein so entpacktes Archiv erzeugt reproduzierbar, aber nicht immer, eine falsche Ordnerstruktur.
Oft kommt dann schon beim Entpacken eine Rückfrage, ob Dateien überschrieben werden sollen.
Die entstandenen Verzeichniss sind unbrauchbar, die Programme finden ihre Komponenten nicht.
Der Windows-Unzipper "alle extrahieren..." liefert ein korrektes Ergebnis, so wie die 7zip-Version 9.20 auch noch

Windows supports small (4 KB) pages and large (2 MB) memory pages. Most of programs use only 4 KB pages.
And it works correctly. So there is no any problem for most programs. But there is Windows API that allows to use 2 MB pages.
And 7-Zip uses that API, if special "Large pages mode" option is enabled in 7-Zip settings.
When 7-Zip uses 2 MB pages, 7-Zip can work incorrectly, or Windows system can crash.

What's new after 7-Zip 20.00 alpha:

The default number of LZMA2 chunks per solid block in 7z archive was increased to 64.
It allows to increase the compression speed for big 7z archives, if there is a big number
of CPU cores and threads.

The speed of PPMd compressing/decompressing was increased for 7z/ZIP/RAR archives.

The new -ssp switch. If the switch -ssp is specified, 7-Zip doesn't allow the system
to modify "Last Access Time" property of source files for archiving and hashing operations.

Some bugs were fixed.

Hat jemand die Version 20.01 Alpha schon gegen die letzte Final gebencht?

Im Forum (sourceforge) nimmt man sich dessen wie jedesmal an. Die 20.00 war jednefalls recht gut dabei sich zu empfehlen.

Das genauso ewige wie gelegentliche Drama gegenüber (Win)Rar5 bleibt aber trotzdem weiterhin bestehen. Ich hab hier einen bunt gemischten Ordner mit allem was ich zu und über Thunderbird angesammelt habe. 425MB. Eben aber einiges auch was nicht mehr gut packbar ist (Bilder, PDFs usw.)
20.xx staucht es auf 212MB in 30s mit 4 Threads. Winrar5 in 14s auf 208MB.
In dem Fall ackert er sich wohl völlig unnötig an der setup.exe ab.

Manchmal ist es gleichschnell und das mit besseren Ratios. Oft aber spürbar langsamer mit vergleichbarem Ratio.

p.s.:
20.02 ist raus. Die sozusagen nun öffentliche Alpha ;)

edit:
"(Win)Rar5" nicht mit dem neueren Rar5 Format verwechseln. Ich hab mit Roshal (Eugene) mal kurz darüber diskutiert woraufhin er dann einige Monate später es doch rausgeholt hat (in der Exe schlummerte der Entpacker dafür schon VIEL länger), aber einen realen Nutzen sehe ich darin nicht. Funktionsumfang von Winrar ist zwar edelst, aber zu der Packmethodik selbst fällt ihm IMHO seit dem Rar4 Algo auch nicht mehr soviel ein =)

Schön, daß der original 7-zip Macher das macht, aber wie er selbst schreibt, benutzt er selbst wohl kein Linux. Naja, dem aktiven p7zip fork (und vielleicht der lzma5) kann es ja nur helfen sich das mal anzusehen.

What's new after 7-Zip 21.03 beta:

7-Zip now reduces the number of working CPU threads for compression, if RAM size is not enough for compression with big LZMA2 dictionary.
7-Zip now can create and check "file.sha256" text files that contain the list of file names and SHA-256 checksums in format compatible with sha256sum program. 7-Zip can work with such checksum files as with archives, but these files don't contain real file data.
The context menu commands to create and test "sha256" files:

7-Zip / CRC SHA / SHA-256 -> file.sha256
7-Zip / CRC SHA / Test Archive : Checksum

The commands for command line version:

7z a -thash file.sha256 *.txt
7z t -thash file.sha256
7z t -thash -shd. file.sha256

New -shd{dir_path} switch to set the directory that is used to check files referenced by "file.sha256" file for "Test" operation. If -shd{dir_path} is not specified, 7-Zip uses the directory where "file.sha256" is stored.

What's new after 7-Zip 21.06:

7-Zip now can extract VHDX disk images (Microsoft Hyper-V Virtual Hard Disk v2 format).
New switches: -spm and -im!{file_path} to exclude directories from processing for specified paths that don't contain path separator character at the end of path.
In the "Add to Archive" window, now it is allowed to use -m prefix for "Parameters" field as in command line: -mparam.
The sorting order of files in archives was slightly changed to be more consistent for cases where the name of some directory is the same as the prefix part of the name of another directory or file.
TAR archives created by 7-Zip now are more consistent with archives created by GNU TAR program.

Vermutlich weil LZ4, Zstd, ect. eher unter Linux ein Thema sind, während 7zip von Igor aber so richtig nur für Windows entwickelt wird.

Was aber nicht gut ist, denn Zstd ist technisch und praktisch nun mal viel besser als LZMA2 oder RAR. Selbst mit niedrigster Kompressionstärke ist die Größenreduzierung noch sehr ordentlich, und das bei echtzeittauglicher Geschwindigkeit.

Aber was soll man machen? Nur weil Igor das einbaut, würde auch nicht bedeuten, dass sich das plötzlich in der Windows-Welt durchsetzt.

Welche Kompressionseinstellungen sind denn der beste Kompromiss aus kompakte Dateigröße und verwendete Kompressionszeot(Stromverbrauch). Anwendung ist Spieleverzeichnis wie MS Flightsimulator regelmäßig zu sichern.

Das was für dich am besten passt? Mach ein paar Tests mit unterschiedlichen Verfahren und Settings, dann schau was du brauchst .. z.B.
- Soll es schnell gehen und Platz auf den Laufwerk ist nebensächlich?
- Oder ist der Platz knapp aber man hat Zeit für das Backup?

Man kann sich auch wie früher oder in Linux ein kleines Script (.bat file) bauen mit folgenden Inhalt:
- Gehe in 7zip Verzeichnis, (z.B.: c: & cd "c:\Program Files\7-Zip") oder erweitere deine PATH Windows Umgebungsvariable
- Führe 7z.exe mit den nötigen Settings aus (Hier gibt es Details https://info.nrao.edu/computing/guide/file-access-and-archiving/7zip/7z-7za-command-line-guide)
- Schalte Windows aus (z.B.: shutdown -s -t 10)

In der .bat File dann jeden Befehl mit einen & verknüpfen => damit stellt man sicher das Befehle in der Reinfolge ausgeführt werden und der Rechner zum Schluss runter fährt, man kann auch Standby oder Hibernation angeben bei shutdown.

7-Zip for Linux and macOS now can reduce the number of simultaneously open files, when 7-Zip opens, extracts or creates multivolume archive. It allows to avoid the failures for cases with big number of volumes, bacause there is a limitation for number of open files allowed for a single program in Linux and macOS.
There are optimizations in code for 7-Zip's context menu in Explorer: the speed of preparing of the menu showing was improved for cases when big number of files were selected by external program for context menu that contains 7-Zip menu commands.
There are changes in code for the drag-and-drop operations to and from 7-Zip File Manager.
And the drag-and-drop operation with right button of mouse now is supported for some cases.
The bugs were fixed:
ZIP archives: if multithreaded zip compression was performed with more than one file to stdout stream (-so switch), 7-zip didn't write "data descriptor" for some files.
ext4 archives: 7-Zip couldn't correctly extract symbolic link to directory from ext4 archives.
HFS and APFS archives: 7-Zip incorrectly decoded uncompressed blocks (64 KiB) in compressed forks.
Some another bugs were fixed.
