I have another project.

I sent one of my Voodoo5 6000 Rev.3700A to http://liquid-extasy.de/

I don't wanna be bitching - but I'd like to know, why didn't you opt for a water inlet geometry guiding the water from the center of the card to the perimeter (i.e., injecting between the 2nd and 3rd GPU, guiding then split 50% left and right over #1 and #4, before exiting to the rear cooling plate)? This would result in more evenly spread temperatures compared in purely sequential cooling, which could perhaps benefit the overall stability.

I am not sure, how big the effect would have been. Just wanted to know, if you had considered it, and if, what the reasons were not to do it. It will be a beautiful new dress for the old lady, anyway. (y)

As the power consumption of the chips are actually quite moderate by todays standards (about 30W each?), I doubt it makes much of a difference. And the thickness of the copper block also helps to even it out. But I agree that a central water supply may yield a slightly better temperature uniformity. But there is also a potential risk for an unevenly distributed water flow which may negate this advantage.

Uneven distribution could be to a big degree circumvented by a symmetrical design, e.g. central front inlet, splitting symmetric into two outlets/inlets to the rear cooler, which also symmetrically ends in an central single outlet.

But yes, 30W per chip is not too much, I agree - on the other hand, results on early Multicore-CPUs show, that even a small difference may be quite OC-critical. And the "goddess" is known for being bitchy... Maybe it would have helped, maybe not. I'm happy anyway for the initiative shown, I don't care to much about the possible/impossible last few MHz. Otherwise, one could also complain about possibly not optimized fin structures/ channel width, etc. etc., but that's really too much, I think.

30W is kinda overestimated. Google told me about 30W for the 5500.
Additionally an AGP-Port could only provide about 45W. Since a 6Pin-PCIe-Connector delivers 75W and (nonstandard) Molex-adapters use two of them, they should have a maximum of about 40W.
This yields to a maximum of about 80W for the whole 6k-Board.

You should have gone for LiquidTape which can be removed very easy.

Keine Ahnung wo die Info herkommt, aber meines Wissens nach geht es da nur um NOS (New Old Stock) bzw. nur davon spricht auch Anthony (der Schöpfer des Nachbaus).

Das Original hat übrigens sehr wohl auf AGP gesetzt, wobei dieser nur 1x lief (was mehr oder weniger PCI66 entspricht). Anthony hat wegen der besseren Nutzbarkeit auf moderneren Boards und im Hinblick auf Adapter (PCI zu PCIe) den PCI Slot gewählt.

Du willst nicht wissen wieviele Maschinen in der Industrie teilweise mit 20 bis 30 Jahre alter Hardware laufen.
Da gab es irgendwann mal in den 90er einen Spezial Rechner der irgendwelche komischen Rechenkarten benutzt und schwups kannst dir 20 Jahre später überlegen wenn da etwas kaputt geht ob du für 1-20 tausend euro irgendeine Karte tauscht oder dir für 1-2 Millionen eine komplett neue Anlage kaufst die nicht vergleichbar zu dem Stapel Maschinen ist die schon in deiner Fabrik stehen. :frown:

Korrekt, für die SLI Kommunikation kommt ein PCI Bus zum Einsatz (2x VSA -> Direktverbindung; 4x VSA100 und mehr -> eigenes sekundäres Bussystem;; alles PCI66).
Theoretisch könnte man vielleicht alle VSA100 komplett eigenständig anbinden, dann wäre AGP4x als Bandbreite drin. Aber ob man damit dann etwas gewinnt bzw. wie dann die weitere Synchronisation ablaufen soll? Zudem bräuchte man für jeden VSA100 einen Wandlerchip von AGP zu PCIe.

Ich vermute stark daß die aus einer Reserve für die Flugsimulatoren kommen, die mal mit VSA-100 Chips gebaut wurden. Ich meine für den Harrier, der ja auch nicht mehr bei den Briten geflogen wird. Also sind jetzt die Chips übrig.

Das Original hat übrigens sehr wohl auf AGP gesetzt, wobei dieser nur 1x lief (was mehr oder weniger PCI66 entspricht). Anthony hat wegen der besseren Nutzbarkeit auf moderneren Boards und im Hinblick auf Adapter (PCI zu PCIe) den PCI Slot gewählt.

Was sollte er auch sonst machen. AGP an ein neueres Mobo löten? PCI Slots findet man ja noch, auch wenn oft nur 32 Bit. Gibt es da nicht auhc bridgechips für nach PCIe?
