Intel also announced their LaGrande initiative which will bring hardware level security support that could work with Microsoft’s Palladium. There wasn’t much revealed about LaGrande (a codename for the forthcoming productized features) other than it will be implemented through a series of CPU and chipset extensions; this lead us to believe that some of Prescott’s new instructions could be LaGrande related but we have yet to confirm that.

With Prescott, Intel will also be introducing LaGrande Support, which is something Intel has talked about at a very high level in the past as a hardware level security standard.

Detaillierte Informationen zu LaGrande wollte Intel noch nicht herausrücken, Rattner und Schutz taten so, als hörten sie Begriffe wie Trusted Mode, Curtained Memory und Palladium das erste Mal. LaGrande soll allerdings nicht in allen Prescott-Versionen aktiv sein, sondern je nach Bedarf -- wie bei der der berüchtigten Seriennummer -- für verschiedene Märkte abgeschaltet sein. Die LaGrande-Technik soll den Aufbau von TCPA-kompatiblen Personal Computern ermöglichen. Details der komplizierten kryptographischen Technik hatte Intel schon im letzten Herbst erläutert. Die Ziele der TCPA werden von vielen Anwendern kritisch beurteilt; Intel betont allerdings, dass man zunächst ausschließlich auf Business-Anwendungen ziele und die ganze Technik ohnehin noch in den Kinderschuhen stecke. Bisher ist nur klar, dass LaGrande nur in Verbindung mit einem entsprechend ausgestatteten Mainboard (mit Trusted Platform Module TPM und Spezial-BIOS) TCPA-konform sein wird.

At the last Developer Forum, Intel President Paul Otellini said that Prescott would come with LaGrande. Executives are now saying, however, that the circuitry to enable LaGrande will be in the chip, but will only be activated in future versions, possibly two to three years from now.
