Zum Thema, wo der Zen gefertigt wird, kommt eine viel konkretere Stellungnahme direkt von CEO Lisa Su vom kürzlichen Conference Call (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/edited-transcript-amd-earnings-conference-075552233.html).

Im anschließenden Q&A fragt Harlan Sur, JPMorgan, konkret nach Zen:
"Great, thanks for taking my question. So, Lisa, you gave us a relatively brief update on Zen. If you could just give us an update on Zen from a (technical difficulty) perspective? It's a new core architecture, a new process technology. I think you taped out a couple of chips last quarter. Any feedback on the performance or the yield metrics that gives the team confidence on the broad rollout of the different product families starting next year?"

Lisa antwortet:
"Yes, so, Harlan, let me couch it this way. So as we stated in the financial analyst day, we had a target of 40% IPC performance of Zen over our previous generation. We believe we are on track for that. Relative to process technology, we have taped out multiple products to multiple fabs in FinFET and we believe that they're also on track in terms of overall ramp. So we continue to focus on both of those aspects, both the architecture and the process technology, but so far, so good."

Also allein auf ZEN bezogen mehrere Produkte (>=2) in mehreren FABs (>=2) mit FinFET. Für mich ist das TSMC und GF.
Als einzige, aber etwas abwegige Interpretation könnte es nur noch sein, dass TSMC mehr als eine FAB für 16nm betreibt und AMD mehr als eine davon nutzt.

Mal eine paar allgemeine Fragen wo hier in den News sowohl von AMDs LowPower als auch von der VIA berichtet wird:

In wie weit steht eigentlich anderen CPU Herstellern ein Sockel von z.b. AMD zur verfügung? Also könnte VIA eine CPU für AM1 herstellen und wäre dieser auch dort Lauffähig? Wie offen sind die Sockel und die Architektur Abseits der CPU selbst?

Macht es nicht Sinn das VIA, wie früher AMD, Cyrix und co, eine CPU für die Plattform eines Konkurenten anbietet der eine bessere Marktposition hat? Für mich wäre es nur logisch das andere CPU Hersteller eine gemeinsame Plattform gegen Intel positionieren.

Kann man eigentlich aus Erfahrungswerten der Vergangenheit sagen wie viel Zeit normalerweise zwischen Tape-out und Release einer CPU liegt?
