Set a custom DS resolution and choose it in-game:
http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=454129

I have been doing some studying up on downsampling and even found a very well written guide in english here:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=346325

It appears to me that getting what corresponds to 2x2 supersampling to work is not possible on all monitors.
Furthermore messing around with unsupported resolutions is not without risk.
Many games have ingame support for downsampling or OGSSAA (ArmA 2, Serious Sam 3, GTA 4 (with ENB mod), Witcher 2 and others).
Maybe this will be added to Hard Reset in a future patch/engine revision.
For anyone interested I even wrote a "mini guide" on getting 2x2 supersampling combined with FXAA to work in GTA 4 using ENB mod 0.079 and patch 1.03 of the game.
This "guide" can be found in post #1939 on page 97 of this thread

It should work with the current WHQL drivers and 2xDS for 1080p with most displays.
It's not an official AA method, so problems may occur, yes. ;)

Furthermore messing around with unsupported resolutions is not without risk.

With LCD displays it's risk free.

The monitor isn't affected since the image is downsampled by the GPU.
What the monitor gets is a signal for its native resolution or other resolutions it supports, containing the already downsampled data.
Even the display refresh rate shouldn't be an issue since LCDs simply don't accept anything beyond/below their specs.
So, the worst thing that could happen is that you get a black screen which is gone after pressing escape or doing a reset if the graphics driver crashed.

Ok, that makes sense.
But someone named IKnowJack wrote this as a reply to the DS guide on Guru3d:
too much effort for very little gain..
and it wont work on all monitors..you got lucky playing around with the H/V size and Pixel Clock.. forcing a higher pixel clock can cause damage to the monitor and or produce out of sync messages..

I think however that this comment is related to setting up the resolution in the driver.

I would like to set up a 3840x2400 resolution in the driver (corresponding to 2x2 SSAA at 1920x1200).
My native res is 1920x1200 at 60 Hz.
Should the resfresh rate be set lower when creating the custom resolution?

If it doesn't work otherwise, yes.
You may have to have your card in P0 powerstate while creating the resolution.
Dunno what's the best way to achieve this, maybe starting a game in window mode.
I don't have this problem because I got just a 1.3 MP monitor.

Crysis (+ Warhead und wohl auch Wars):
0x000002C1 für SGSSAA

Beispiel (http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=9225604&postcount=2280)

http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=45276&stc=1&d=1364156219

High entspricht dann Very High.

http://www.mediafire.com/?76hybprx70ckzyx

:freak:

Benchmark (avg fps; GPU benchmark, very high @DX9, 16:1 AF, MB off, textures streaming off, vsync off, Crysis 1.2 x32, no mods):
4xSGSSAA per Bits: 31,41
4xSGSSAA enhanced: 43,23
2x2Downsampling: 30,23
8xTSSAA per Bits: 24,78
8xTSSAA enhanced: 48,87

So its not entirely impossible to find a working AA flag in DX10/11.
0x80000F72 works in Hunted: The Demon's Forge and
0x80000F71 works in Bioshock 1+2.

Perhaps one of these profiles could be modified to work in Crysis 2?
For me getting MSAA/SGSSAA working in DX11 could be amazing.
DX11 offers alot in this game and using DX9 just for AA doesnt make much sense to me.
I know Downsampling is also an option, but it is inferior to a working MSAA/SGSSAA compatibility flag in my opinion.
On another note, Cryostasis has an ingame AA setting that is simply "On/Off".
Does anyone know exactly what this is?

They are all Unreal Engine 3 and DirectX 10(.0).
There is also a bit for Far Cry 2 (which is DX10.1, if I'm not mistaken) and it doesn't work.
Maybe it would work with the DX10.0 path.

So, show me a DX 10.1 or above game with which forced AA works. :)

Yes, I'm pretty sure that Far Cry 2 is DX 10.1.
I remember how the developers talked about using it to achieve higher quality AA without a performance hit.
But you're right, it should be mentioned on the first page that certain UE 2.5 and UE 3.0 games support forced AA in DX10.0.
Maybe the AA flag for Hunted: The Demon's Forge should even be included in the list.

I just gave Quake Wars a try and it worked without AA profile.
Not perfect but no difference to 0x0000F0C1.
AFAIR both Blaire and Guzz said that there wouldn't be any bits for OpenGL and I've not seen a single proof against that yet. ;)

It's true that most games based on the "Doom 3 engine" works without any AA flags.
I have been using 16xS in Doom 3 and Prey without a flag set and it works beautifully.
But according to the old NVIDIA AA guide located here (http://forum.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=336854), 0x0000F0C1 produces higher quality AA than the ingame setting in some OpenGL games.
I remember trying the STALKER flag in Prey and it did make some difference over the ingame setting, but blurred the image slightly.

Something else I noticed is that enhancing the ingame setting in Doom 3 and Prey with 2xTrSSAA or 4xTrSSAA has a very big performance hit, so maybe this is enabling some kind of fullscreen supersampling mode. It looks great and in my experience is the only way of getting transparency antialiasing in an IdTech 4 game, short of forcing a hybrid mode (8xS, 16xS etc).
Enhancing with SGSSAA does nothing at all...just an interesting observation.

A while ago I found an interesting thread on your forum:

According to this, 0x000010C1 is optimal when forcing SGSSAA in Mass Effect 2.
In this thread 0x08009CC5 is listed as the best flag when forcing SGSSAA, but according to the link above this flag is slower and looks worse than 10C1.
I suggest that 0x08009CC5 should be replaced with 0x000010C1 for Mass Effect 2.
Have been using it myself for a long time and can confirm it works very well.

Good finding.
And for OpenGL the manual LOD adjustment doesn't work (just tried it with Serious Sam). So it's better just to use the OGSSAA hybrids there.
Gonna add it to the first post.

I have done some experimenting with SLI profiles and SGSSAA in Mass Effect 2.
It turns out the 0x08009CC5 is the best choice for SGSSAA when using SLI.
I have made a detailed explanation in the SLI thread:

http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=509912&page=12

I recommend we change the SGSSAA flag back to 0x08009CC5 for now.

Only a small percentage of users use SLI, 10C1 are better for the vast majority.
There's enough room in the table for both bits.

But it should be noted in the table that 10C1 should not be used with SLI.

Hi, I have been thinking a little more about forcing AA in DX10.0 in some games.
For that reason I went through all of the driver profiles looking for DX10 AA compatibility flags.
Then I sorted them into DX10.0, DX10.1 and DX11 games like this:

DX10.0:

0x80000F71 (Bioshock 1+2)
0x00000800 (Imagine Flight Simulator, MS Flightsimulator X)
0x01000000 (Merchants of Brooklyn)
0x00000080 (World in Conflict)

DX10.1:

0x00100000 (Far Cry 2)
0x00001000 (H.A.W.X.)
0x01000000 (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky)

DX11:

0x00001000 (Dirt 2, Formula 1 2010)
0x01000000 (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat)

This should give an overview of known, official AA flags for DX10.0 and up.
Maybe one of these bits will work in DX10.0 games with no ingame AA support. Who knows?
Just thought I'd put it out there for people to try.
Cryostasis for one is DX10.0 and has pretty lousy ingame AA.

Regarding OpenGL and SGSSAA, it is actually possible to adjust the LOD bias. At least in an Id Tech 4 game.
Just bring down the console, type "image_lodbias" and set the value to whatever you want, i.e. -0.5.

Quelle: NVidia Anti-Aliasing Guide (updated), Seite 5 (http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4273417&postcount=116)

Hi, I noticed that a few of the known AA flags from various AA guides on the NVIDIA and Guru3d forums are not in your list on page 1.
These include:

Aliens vs. Predator (dx9): 0x004030C1 (MSAA)
Assassin's Creed series (dx9): 0x000012C1 (SGSSAA)
Back to the Future series: 0x00000041 (MSAA)
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (dx9): 0x004030C1 (MSAA)
Cursed Crusade: 0x000012C1 (SGSSAA)
Gothic III: 0x00001041 (MSAA, performs better than 0x0000F0C1)

Hi, I found some more working AA flags by going through the old NVIDIA AA guide.
These are my findings so far:

America's Army 3: 0x00000041 (MSAA, HUD doesn't disappear)
Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood: 0x00411245 (MSAA, faster and blurs less than 0x0000F0C1)
Mafia 2: 0x00000244 (SGSSAA alternative, doesn't blur with 4xMSAA+4xSGSSAA)

A screenshot of 0x00411245 used in CoJ: BiB can be seen here:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=3875039&postcount=175

The Mafia 2 AA flag is from an older post in this thread:
http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=8680797&postcount=870
In my opinion 0x000002C1 and 0x00000244 should both be in the list, since 2C1 is best suited for 8xMSAA+8xSGSSAA only.

Finally I noticed that "The Cursed Crusade" SGSSAA entry in the list is not in correct alphabetical order.

Hi,

I tried 4xMSAA+4xSGSSAA (0x000010C5 flag) in Ghostbusters a couple of days ago.
In almost all parts of the game it runs at a solid 60 fps at 1920x1200 with two 480 GTX's.
I'm using the ingame "60 Hz" framerate cap setting, which caps the FPS at 60.

In some scenes there are mouse lags/stuttering, but I found that this can be solved by setting "Soft Particles" to "Off" in the video menu.
With "Soft Particles" disabled and everything else at maximum I now get a perfect 60 fps at all times. Visually there is almost no difference with this setting on or off.

Just thought I would share my experience with SGSSAA in this game since the 0x000010C5 flag is approved based on a single screenshot from the very first scene in the campaign.
This scene has no smoke or particle effects and is not affected by the problem.

Hello guys.
I found a better SLI profile "0x42400005" for Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
The official profile "0x02400005" suffers from slowdowns around smoke or particle effects.
Here are some comparison screenshots taken on the "start screen" at 1920x1200 with 8xSGSSAA forced using "0x000010C5" (All the menus are capped at 30 FPS in this game):

I also found a HBAO+ flag "0x0000002B" for Ghostbusters.
All other combinations of AO bits either flickered on and off, didn't work at all or caused massive performance slowdowns still without working.
Here are some ingame comparison screenshots, one without any AO and one with "Quality" HBAO+ forced (capped to 60 FPS using "Lock display to 60Hz refresh rate"):

No, not at all.
The game has an official AA flag (0x00000005).
I can force as much MSAA+TSSAA as I want, and it still doesn't stutter at all.
I should say that these slight cases of mouse lag with 4xSGSSAA are very rare and only happen at a few points throughout the whole game.
Particularly around heavy smoke/water particles or in scenes with complex lighting.
Performance doesn't even necessarily drop below 60 fps, so I think it's the combination of SGSSAA with "Soft Particles".
But turn off "Soft Particles" and it's completely perfect.
"Soft Particles" has absolutely no impact on mouse lag/stuttering/performance with MSAA on my system.

You can enhance Far Cry's in-game MSAA to SGSSAA without blur.
I wrote that with 10C1 but it works well without bits.
Oblivion without mods works just like Fallout 3 with 10C1 too.
Since Bioshock is UE3 it may work with Blaire's bit too.
If you have them installed, could you check them? :)

It's true that enhancing works well in Far Cry (Tried it with the Far Cry 2010 mod a few months ago).
The 10C1 flag is still useful if you want to use HDR lighting in FC.
In that case the ingame setting is automatically disabled and enhancing is useless.
By default HDR in FC is overdone and glitchy, but it can be tweaked to look very nice.

Regarding Oblivion one of the posts cited in the MSAA list is useful (click on "spoiler" to see 4xSGSSAA forced with 45 bit):

According to the post I mentioned above the "45er bit" (I take that to mean 0x00000045?) is excellent for SGSSAA in Oblivion. I'll try it out later.
By "standard bit" I imagine that means the official AA flag (0x200100c5)?
Isn't any bit ending with C1 not generally slower?
Maybe 0x00000045 also works for Fallout 3? Maybe even at higher FPS?

I don't have Bioshock installed, sorry.

I'm back again.
Just tried both 0x000010C1 and 0x00000045 with 4xMSAA+4xSGSSAA in Oblivion at 1920x1200.

While both flags work 10C1 provides far better image quality, and I recommend this is added to the SGSSAA list.

I know it might seem obvious that since it works for Fallout 3, it also works in Oblivion.
But remember that FO3 uses slightly different lighting (HDR looks different at least) and Oblivion should have its own entry in the list.

I'm limited to 4xSGSSAA for VRAM reasons (1.5 GB limit) as a result of using many HD texture mods:

Mikal33's Textures
BTT for Qarl pack 4096
Qarl's LOD normals 4096
Qarls's Texture Pack 3
Really Almost Everything Visible When Distant (RAEWD)

And many, many more (including various facial and character improvements).

I also recommend that 10C1 is added for Far Cry for compatibility reasons.
It's always nice to have an alternative to the ingame setting, especially in Far Cry if you wish to use HDR.

It's always nice to have an alternative to the ingame setting, especially in Far Cry if you wish to use HDR.
For Bioshock 1 & 2 10C1 works well too.
Just have to be launched with "-DX9" parameter.

That's excellent.
I wasn't sure 10C1 would work since Bioshock uses a customized version of Unreal Engine 2 (UT2004 etc).
Maybe i'll reinstall Bioshock to replay it with 8xSGSSAA..

Hi,

According to this (http://www.madvulture.de/wp/archives/440) site, the 1.75 CP for Gothic 3 has some issues that need to be resolved.
I'm running the following mods in Gothic 3:

CP 1.74
Quest Paket 4.2
Content Mod 2.3
Heavily customized ge3.ini

As far as I can tell the 1.75 patch brings little to the table (FXAA, Shader Cache etc), so i'm sticking with 1.74 and forcing 4xSGSSAA (10C1).
Stuttering is almost non-existent on a SSD, so the Shader Cache is not really needed IMO.

I found a better performing AA flag for Frontlines: Fuel of War: 0x000100C5 (MSAA).
There is little to no image quality difference between the new flag and the original driver flag (0x08000045).
Combining the SLI profile I posted in the SLI thread (0x02406405) with driver forced MSAA (0x000100C5) gives great performance and image quality in FFOW.

Furthermore I tried 4xSGSSAA (10C1) in Bioshock at 1920x1200 in SLI mode.
This bit works great and gives excellent IQ and nice SLI scaling (the cards actually have to work in this game now..lol).

Finally I found a couple of SGSSAA flags courtesy of blodindark from the NVIDIA forums:

Blades of Time: 0x004012C5 (SGSSAA) (http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4296176&postcount=147)
The Walking Dead: 0x200002C1 (SGSSAA) (http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4302070&postcount=160)

I think 0x000010C1 should be kept for Gothic 3.
It still works for CP 1.74 or older as well as the unmodified game.
0x000012C1 should be added as a special SGSSAA flag to be used for Community Patch 1.75.

What about Diablo III?
Shouldn't 0x004412C1 be added as a working flag for MSAA?

I'm not sure about this.
I sometimes (seldom) had the whole screen flickering for some miliseconds.
I'm not sure if this came from the bit or if it was a game bug.
Needs further testing, but unfortunately I don't have closed beta access.
Using just 0x00400000 may be enough too.

I see, but you didn't mention that in your original post:
http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=9261633&postcount=2359

These AA flags should be added/modified though:

MSAA:

Adam's Venture 3: Revelations: 0x28020041
Bloodline Champions: 0x00001241
Frontlines: Fuel of War: 0x000100C5 (Better performance than 0x08000045)

SGSSAA:

Adam's Venture 3: Revelations: 0x080000C1
Bloodline Champions: 0x000012C1
Gothic 3: 0x000010C1, 0x000012C1 (CP 1.75)
Blades of Time: 0x004012C5
The Walking Dead: 0x200002C1

The "Adam's Venture 3" and "Bloodline Champions" flags are from here:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4265266&postcount=95

The fact that Gothic 3 needs a new AA flag for SGSSAA since CP 1.75 got me thinking about MSAA in that game.
Maybe it's worth investigating whether there is a difference between 0x00001041 (in the list) and 0x00001241 since CP 1.75?
If that's the case then it should be added to the MSAA list like this:

Gothic 3: 0x00001041, 0x00001241 (CP 1.75)

Still running CP 1.74 myself, so unfortunately I can't test it.

Also Risen 2 benutzt DX9.

I know this is purely an AA thread, but I'll share some of my experiences with modding Gothic 3 for best image quality and least stuttering.
I use these mods installed in the following order:

1) Community Patch 1.75 (http://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_478.htm)
2) Gothic 3 Questpaket 4 (Vollversion Update 2) (http://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_433.htm)
3) Content Mod 2.6.1 (http://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_489.htm)
4) Night of the Raven font from Gothic 2 (http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=71)

Then I set the ingame settings to their maximum values.
The next important step is modifying "UserOptions.ini" and "ge3.ini", changing ONLY the following lines:

UserOptions.ini:

VoiceLanguage=English
SubtitleLanguage=English
Subtitle=true
VSync=0
LensFlare=0
Bloom=2
DepthOfField=0
Antialiasing=0
Noise=0
Feedback=0
ColorGrading=1

ge3.ini:

Entity.ROI=8000.0

DistanceHigh.fFarClippingPlane_High=30000.0
DistanceLow.fFarClippingPlaneLowPolyMesh_High=300000.0
VegetationViewRange.fViewDistance_VeryHigh=22500.0

ObjectDetails.fScreenObjectDistanceCulling_VeryHigh=0.0005
ObjectDetails.fProcessingRangeFadeOutRange_VeryHigh=50.0
ObjectDetails.fRangedBaseLoDOffset_VeryHigh=3200.0

Finally I apply 8xQ MSAA+8xSGSSAA using the "0x000012C1" AA flag.
This install process gives me a beautiful G3 with very little stuttering and minimal ingame pauses.

To avoid stuttering and hangs, CP 1.75 really is an improvement. :)
Do you skip it because of your savegames?

SLIKnight
2012-05-01, 16:19:35
No, not really.
But most mods are not compatible with CP 1.75 yet.

I have very little stuttering because I have set "Resource Cache" to "High" instead of "Optimal" and set all the "ResourceCache.u32....MemUsage" settings to 3 x their default settings.
This means I will have slightly more stuttering at first, but after running around for a few minutes everything is loaded into RAM and there is no stuttering at all after that.
Also having the game installed on a SSD really helps with the stuttering, since this game is all about CPU and Disk speed.

And then there is the SGSSAA problem, and 10C1 really gives overall better image quality than 12C1, with less blurring.

Has anybody found a working SGSSAA flag for Risen 2 yet?
I know the BC2 flag (0x004012C1) kinda works, but with glitches.

I have been doing some experimentation with driver-forced downsampling.
A user called "wasteomind" from the Guru3D forums has written an excellent guide to downsampling in english:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=346325
Highly recommend this guide to others, and I think it should be added to the first page of this thread as an alternative when all other AA methods fail.

I used the guidelines in it to add a custom resolution of 2880x1800@60Hz for my Dell U2410 monitor.
Currently using this resolution in Hard Reset (downsampled to 1920x1200) + ingame FXAA.
This produces a very nice result IMO (no issues with "zooming" since i'm still on the 285.62 WHQL driver).

Maybe the only way to get "non-glitchy" AA in Risen 2 is downsampling?

Apparently the 0x004012C1 flag only works "well" for 4xMSAA+2xSGSSAA, and even then there is flickering in the menu and performance issues:

Let's hope Risen 2 gets a DX11 patch with ingame MSAA (fingers crossed).

SGSSAA isn't really necessary in Serious Sam 3 anyway.
I'm running at 1920x1200 at all Ultra settings except the following customizations:

Max 3D Rendering MPIX: Unlimited
Parallax Mapping: Nice
Parallaxing Quality: High
Multi-Sample Antialiasing: High (8x)
Ambient Occlusion Quality: High

And with these settings I see almost no aliasing at all.
Furthermore the 1.5 GB VRAM of my two 480 GTX's is plenty and I have no stuttering even when playing large open missions.

I highly recommend to turn off "Autosave" under "Game Options" though, as this seems to cause some stuttering and possibly triggers a memory leak.
Just using "Quick Saves" and manual saves now, and the singleplayer campaign is much more enjoyable for it.

http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=9014821&postcount=1563

So I should just enhance with SGSSAA and adjust "Rendering Pixel Ratio"?
Currently this variable is set to 50 %, what is optimal for best AA?
Ah, yes. It should be set to maximum.

What do you think of adding such examples to the list where changes of the in-game settings are needed but no AA bit?

I think that's an excellent idea.
Otherwise valuable information is simply lost when page after page of posts are added.
Just to be perfectly clear the "Rendering Pixel Ratio" should be set to the far right position or 100 % to improve AA?

Yep.
So, then I'll add it to the list. :)
But inside temples it still won't be perfect due to the lamps.

Hier mal meine Einstellungen: http://www.abload.de/img/zzzzitix9.png (http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=zzzzitix9.png)

Never heard of anyone getting SGSSAA to work in Aliens vs. Predator (2010).
I assisted in adding the MSAA flag for this game to the list (0x004030C1).
MSAA can be forced in BC2 with the same flag, so maybe the SGSSAA flag for this game (0x004012C1) can be used in AvP (2010)?

Personally i'm running the game in DX11 mode and the ingame 4xAA setting does a great job of removing jaggies..
This game with "Very High" textures and 4xAA still looks beautiful IMHO.
